High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities in our classroom

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

High potential and gifted education - Cognitive Domain
At Ulong Public School, students demonstrate strong cognitive potential through their ability to engage deeply with learning and respond positively to differentiated and enriching opportunities. As independence develops, personalised, interest-based tasks are used to extend higher-order thinking, imagination, and problem-solving. Students show advanced skills in language and expression, including precision, fluency, and originality, reflecting high potential within the Cognitive HPGE domain.
High potential and gifted education - Creative Domain
Students demonstrate creative potential through flexible thinking, originality, and confident idea generation across learning contexts. Through open-ended tasks and drama, including a student-created film selected for filming at the Big Jetty Theatre, they showcased advanced storytelling, collaboration, and expressive skills, reflecting high potential in the Creative HPGE domain.
High potential and gifted education - Social - Emotional Domain
Students demonstrate high potential in the Social–Emotional domain through enthusiasm for learning, positive mindsets, and strong self-regulation skills. Through peer tutoring, collaborative learning, and gardening activities, they show leadership, empathy, resilience, and a strong sense of community. These experiences highlight their ability to work effectively with others, reflect on learning, and confidently contribute beyond the classroom.
High potential and gifted education - Physical Domain
Students demonstrate high potential in the Physical domain through strong coordination, spatial awareness, and measurable gains in strength, endurance, and agility. Through hands-on learning and peer-led fitness activities, they apply advanced movement skills, leadership, resilience, and problem-solving in physically and cognitively challenging contexts.
